2023 NBSL Season In Figures

The 2023 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) ended a few weeks ago with Africa’s top-ranked team, Kebbi BSC winning their second title on home soil.

The league which kicked off in Birnin Kebbi back in April moved to Kaduna in May before the final phase at Kebbi state capital.

The 2023 season produced some groundbreaking statistics which will set the mark for next season.

We look at the season in numbers.

0: Kada BSC’s 11-0 win against debutant, Ibom BSC was the only encounter where a team failed to score in a game.

1: Kada BSC and Nmanko Patigi BSC scored the least number of goals in a game.
Kada BSC scored a goal during their 3-1 loss to Kebbi BSC while Nmanko Patigi BSC also scored a goal as Kada BSC thrashed the team 7-1.

1: Kada BSC’s goalkeeper, Olalekan Oladepo emerged as the only goalkeeper to score throughout the season as he scored the opener against Nmanko Patigi BSC during a 7-1 win.

2: For the first time, Kebbi State fielded two teams in the league; Kebbi BSC and Kebbi United BSC.

2: Two games were decided on penalties.
The first Kebbi Derby between Kebbi BSC and Kebbi United BSC was settled on penalties after both sides played out a 2-2 draw after extra time with Kebbi BSC winning 4-1 on penalties.
Another debutant, Ibom BSC stunned 2022 champions, Kada BSC 6-5 on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

2: Two games were decided after extra time.
Kebbi United BSC defeated Smart City BSC 5-3 after extra time with the game ending in a 3-3 draw after the third period.
Kada BSC secured a 7-6 win after extra time against Kebbi United BSC with the game pegged at 4-4 after the first three periods.

2: Two games didn’t produce any goal in a period.
Kebbi BSC’s 3-1 win over Kada BSC didn’t produce any goal in the second period.
Nmanko Patigi BSC’s 3-2 win over Kebbi United BSC also didn’t produce any goal in the second period.

4: Two games recorded the lowest number of goals throughout the season with four goals.
Kebbi BSC’s 3-1 win over Kada BSC and Kebbi United BSC’s 2-2 draw with Kebbi BSC.

6: Kada BSC’s Dozie Frank scored the most number of goals in a match. He scored six goals during the Kaduna-based side’s 7-6 win against Kebbi United BSC.

11: Kada BSC scored the highest number of goals in a game. The team’s 11-0 win against Ibom BSC was the most scored by a team in a game and the only team to score double figures in a game.

16: Kada BSC’s Dozie Frank scored the highest number of goals with 16 in ten games to emerge as the top goal scorer at the end of the season.

17: The game between Kebbi United and Kada BSC which ended 9-8 in favour of Kebbi United BSC produced the highest number of goals with both sides sharing 17 goals.

20: Champions, Kebbi BSC with 20 goals conceded the lowest number of goals throughout the season.

47: Debutant, Kebbi United BSC with 47 goals scored the highest number of goals at the end of the season.
