2024 NBSL Matchday 2 Review: Kebbi United edge Kebbi BSC in nine-goal thriller as Anambra Warriors maintain perfect start

Matchday two of the 2024 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) took centre stage at Filin Sukuwa, Sani Abacha Bye pass, Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.

The star match of the matchday between the two teams from Kebbi State, Africa’s top-ranked Kebbi BSC, and the state champions, Kebbi United BSC produced a nine-goal thriller.

Kebbi United came out top 5-4 over the league holders.

Uzairu Muhammed lifted the state league champions to a famous win against their local rivals with three goals as Sadiq Umar scored two goals.

Adams Taiwo’s hat trick and a goal from Usman Bello were not enough as Kebbi Fishers suffered their first loss of the season after two games.

The win was the first for Kebbi United BSC after consecutive losses to Kada BSC and Anambra Warriors BSC.

The first game of the matchday saw a dominant 3-0 win for Anambra Warriors BSC over Kebbi United BSC.

Ekwo Stanley bagged a brace with Mommah Miracle scoring the opener for the Nnewi-based team.

The victory maintained Anambra Warriors BSC’s perfect start to the season with two wins from the first two games of the season.

Kada BSC also followed suit with their consecutive win of the campaign albeit on penalties against Nmanko Patigi BSC.

The Kwara-based side surrendered a 2-0 lead after Jamiu Kunle and Blessing Elijah had scored for them to put them two goals ahead but two goals in less than two minutes to the end of the match from Tanko Emmanuel and Dozie Frank took the game into extra time and lottery of penalties.

2022 league winners, Kada BSC emerged victorious 3-1 on penalties.

Meanwhile, debutant, Jigawa Golden Stars BSC recorded their first win of the season with a 3-2 triumph against last season’s runners-up, Nmanko Patigi BSC.

In the same vein as their earlier game, Nmanko Patigi surrendered a two-goal lead in their second game of the matchday.

Usman Yusuf and Kunle Jamiu had given them a 2-0 lead but goals from goalkeeper, Arome Isa and Bagudu Hamza took the game into extra time where Umar Muhammad scored the winning goal.

The third Matchday will take place on Friday followed by the last Matchday of the first round of the league on Saturday.
