Two-time champion and last season’s best goalkeeper of the Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL), Arome Isah is beating his chest that Jigawa Golden Star Beach Soccer Club (BSC) is in the league to make a statement this season.
It has been a fairytale debut season for Jigawa Golden Star BSC with two wins in the first round which puts them in contention for a Super Four qualification, placed in the fourth position with five points after five games heading into the NBSL second round in Nnewi, Anambra State.
The team’s first-choice goalkeeper who joined the debutants from Kebbi Fishers BSC ahead of the season opener believed they are in the league to make a statement.
“Jigawa Golden Star BSC has some experienced players like Idowu Akintunde, Hamza Bagudu, and my very self. We are not just in the league to complete the numbers but we are out to make a statement and also to contend for the league,” Isah told www.beachsoccer.ng
“In the first round, we managed to win some games, and going forward to the second round in Anambra State we believe we would do greater things that many would see that Jigawa Golden Star BSC have come to stay.”
In the fourth position above Nmanko Patigi BSC and Kebbi United BSC, teams that are more experienced in the league than the debutant, Isah opened up on the motivating factor for the club.
“The motivating factor I would say is the vision and mission statement of Jigawa Golden Star BSC. Speaking with the Honorable Commissioner of Youth and Sports and the Chairman of the team, we have seen so far the mission statement of the club and we are determined to make sure that those dreams and vision see the light of the day.” He said.
After winning the league title with Kebbi Fishers BSC in 2021 and 2023, Isah is in an advantageous position to compare the two teams in which he has played in the league.
“In terms of differences between Kebbi BSC and Jigawa Golden Star BSC. Jigawa Golden Star BSC is a newly established beach soccer club in Nigeria and is making their debut in the Nigeria Beach Soccer League while Kebbi BSC has been in existence for some years now.
“They [Kebbi BSC) are well structured and the management understands the game very well but I believe with time as Jigawa Golden Star BSC continues to grow, they will attain the height that Kebbi BSC has reached over the years.” He concluded.
Isah is one of two goalkeepers who have scored in the league so far alongside Kebbi BSC’s Nuhu Noma Aiki.
He hopes to help his team make it to the Super Four after the end of the second round in Nnewi, Anambra State.
