With few days to the kick-off of the 2024 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL), teams have commenced preparation for the season.
Holders, Kebbi Beach Soccer Club (KBSC) intends to retain the title for the first time with player, Hassan Muhammad confident that their experience at the World Winners Cup in Alghero, Italy last year will help the team perform well in the league.
Africa top-ranked side, Kebbi Fishers made history at the World Winner Cup becoming the first African team to reach the Round of 16 of the World Cup for beach soccer clubs.
“The experience we had in Italy I know will help us,” Muhammad told www.beachsoccer.ng
“There should also be improvement from the officials as we recently had coaching and referees refreshers last week. I think they have all the necessary things that they need to know for the new league season. Insha Allah we the players that traveled to Italy will play better anytime we play beach soccer because we have learnt alot. We will help our team from the beginning to the end.”
With the Ramadan fasting in full swing, Muhammad, popularly known as Lampard asserted that the fasting won’t deter their preparation for the league.
“The preparation that we are doing now I think is good because we are back in camp fully.” He continued. “I am preparing to go and train very soon though some of us are fasting but we will still continue to push the team to deliver what we want Insha Allah.”
“Beach soccer is not like football. Even though you have a plan and fitness, it doesn’t mean the opponents can’t defeat you. Based on what we have for my team, we have that believe that any team that we are facing at the group stage or any level, we will exhibit our best skills and techniques to win. That has been pushing us and we will continue to push In sha Allah.” He concluded.
The 2024 season of the NBSL is the fourth season with Kebbi BSC winning two of previous three titles.
They won the maiden edition in 2021 and reclaimed the title in 2023 after Kada BSC dethroned them in 2022.
