In preparation for the 2024 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL), the Nigeria Beach Soccer Association (NBSA) concluded a three-day refresher program for coaches and referees.
The first day of the virtual program on Tuesday, March 26, witnessed FIFA Beach Soccer referee instructor and head of NBSL Technical Study Group (TSG), Sunday Okayi take participants on the law of the game and duration of games to get new teams acquainted to the composition of the game.
FIFA Beach soccer referee who has officiated at six Beach Soccer World Cups, Abdjelii Ogunmuyiwa explained the roles of referees in beach soccer games and their positioning on the field.
During the second day of the program on Wednesday, March 27, CAF and UEFA licensed coach, Abdullahi Isa alongside a member of the NBSA Technical Committee who is also a CAF licensed coach, Christopher Kadiri examined coaches personality skills, special skills as key elements of the game of beach soccer.
On the final day of the program on Thursday, March 28, referee Ogunmuyiwa took referees through the new trend in the game, amended law of the game, and course recap as well as test for referees.
Participants were elated and appreciated the NBSA for providing the platform to learn and grow. They praised the instructors for the rich content and knowledge they acquired during the program.
The NBSL Coordinator, Mahmud Hadejia was impressed with the quality delivery of the instructors and the turnout of the participants which was quite impressive.
He called on the participants to make use of the knowledge gained when the NBSL kicks off and advised them to always improve on their skills which is the general practice globally.
The programs are crucial for coaches and referees to be informed about new developments in the game of beach soccer.
Certificates issued at the end of the program at its equivalent will serve as prerequisites for coaches and assistants that will appear on the technical bench for the 2024 NBSL which will kick off in Kebbi State from April 10 to 13, 2024.
It will be the fourth straight season of the NBSL since its inception in 2021 where Kebbi BSC emerged as champions.
The Kebbi Fishers have won two of the three NBSL titles after Kada BSC won the title in 2022.
