The captain of Kebbi United BSC, Peter Joseph is confident his team can surpass their feat of last season when the 2024 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) first round gets underway next week in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
The club played their debut campaign in the league last season and narrowly missed out of the top three places.
Joseph asserted that he and his teammates fear no foes as they continue preparation for the new season.
“We are preparing fine. The players are ready. We are just waiting for the kick off,” Joseph told www.beachsoccer.ng
“Honestly, last season wasn’t easy being the first time to play in the Nigeria Beach Soccer League. Despite the fact that at the end things turned out the other way and we became fourth. I believe this season that is about to start next week, we are fully prepared for it.”
With the aim of following the footsteps of their local rivals, Kebbi Fishers BSC which has won two of the last three league titles, Joseph is targeting lifting the title this season when they feature in their second campaign.
“The team’s target is to win and deliver because we are fully ready for the league.” He continued.
“Last season, nobody expected it. We just came from nowhere and beating those that are already playing the league. Even the eventual Champions Kebbi Fishers saw how the games went. For this season, we are not afraid of anybody. We believe the new season will be better than last season because we are fully prepared and ready to go. We have our targets and by God’s grace we are going to deliver the league.”
In its fourth straight season, there has been tremendous rise in the development of beach soccer in Nigeria which Joseph corroborated.
“Honestly there has been a lot of development because the beach soccer league has gone worldwide and especially in Kebbi here, we see most of the youths forget whatever they are doing when they hear about beach soccer and focus on the game. That is a big achievement because this time around you can’t see any youth involved in different social vices. The attention of youths has been gotten through the beach soccer league and we will continue to work and encourage them.
“A lot of youths now put their interests in the beach soccer league unlike before when they needed to be canvassed. The Coordinator of the league, Mr Mahmud Hadejia and other officials had tried a lot because youths in Birnin Kebbi are very happy with alot of interest in the game.” He concluded.
Kebbi United BSC are currently the best team in the State after winning the 2023/2024 Kebbi Beach Soccer League (KBSL) last month.
They will hope to replicate this at the national level when the league kicks off next week.
