Stanley Ekwo eyes NBSL title with Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors

Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors star Ekwo Stanley is aspiring to win the 2024 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) title with Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors.

The Nnewi-based side will jostle for the trophy at the season-ending Super Four in Kaduna alongside holders Kebbi BSC, former winners Kada BSC, and Kebbi United BSC.

While acknowledging the quality and experience of the defending champions Kebbi Fishers, Ekwo says his side fears no foes and are ready to give their best at the Super Four Finals.

“We have been preparing very well for the Finals. Since the end of the regular season in Anambra, we went on a break and resumed to prepare for the Super Four,” Ekwo told www.beachsoccer.ng

“I will give credit to the number one beach soccer team in Africa which is Kebbi Fishers. Irrespective of the teams we are playing, we always give our best. Coming to the team that would be our tough opponent, we don’t have any tough opponent in beach soccer. We will just go there and do our thing.

“To win the league is our primary focus but topping the league in Nnewi was also part of the aim but because of the experience in Kebbi. We were supposed to top the league but it’s football. It went that way. Thank God that we eventually made it to the Super Four. Assuming we topped the league in Nnewi, our boss promised us one million Naira reward. It was a blow. The focus now is to go for the top prize at the Super Four.”

The team finished third behind Kebbi BSC and Kada BSC at the end of the regular season in Nnewi.

With the national team set to face Mauritania at the 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (BSAFCON) Qualifiers in July, Ekwo hopes to get a call-up alongside some of his teammates.

“I am just doing my best. It is God who rewards hard work. I am focussing on helping my team win the NBSL trophy. I don’t like to lose. To finish first in Kaduna is my main focus and come back to Anambra State with the title.

“The return of the national beach soccer team is a very good thing for the league. I am looking forward to the Super Four and hopefully invitation to the Super Sand Eagles for the upcoming qualifiers against Mauritania. Nigeria is one of the big teams when it comes to beach soccer in Africa. Anytime we are being called to the national team, we will give our best.” He concluded.

Ekwo has scored 11 goals in the league this season, five goals behind the leading goal scoring sensation, Sadiq Umar from Kebbi United BSC.

He hopes to help the team win the title and fight for the top goal-scorer prize at the end of the Super Four.
